Developing Discipline of Personality

To strengthen and achieve discipline over your personality, knowledge of self and strengthening of will are both important. It is not helpful to the growth of understanding, however, to control your thoughts or impulses except when these may result in infringing on the free-will of another. Exercising control may allow you to achieve discipline of personality, peace, and illumination but by doing so you will necessitate further experiences to balance this repression of the self. Rather, acceptance of self, forgiveness of self, and strengthening and directing your will is the path toward a disciplined personality. Few realize how very powerful this faculty of will is within each of us. As your personality becomes stronger, use care in directing your will because it can be used in ways that could lessen your polarity along the path you have chosen.

When done consciously, fasting is a tool that can be used to eliminate unwanted thoughts. By employing the discipline to abstain from eating, this bodily action can be understood by your mind as an analogy for ridding yourself of the unwanted thoughts. This, then, will be deeply absorbed by the mind, reaching down its hierarchical structure to the subconscious where the connection is made to rid yourself of the unwanted material, whether it is of mind, body, or spirit. In this way the unwanted thoughts fall away even as you acknowledge that they remain a part of your greater self. As your understanding of catalyst and techniques for programming your mind develop, you can do away with fasting altogether and achieve the same result through the exercise of your will and the use of faith that you will achieve the desired outcome.
